Built around legal work

Move sensitive documents out of scattered email threads

Create controlled spaces for internal work and external document exchange without asking every client or partner to join the whole system.

01

Case and matter documents

Organize files by client, matter, or legal team with permissions that keep unrelated work separated.

02

Secure client uploads

Receive contracts, evidence, scans, and supporting documents through an upload link without exposing the folder contents.

03

External counsel and partners

Share selected folders with co-counsel, experts, translators, and other authorized participants using controlled access.

04

Firm knowledge and templates

Keep precedents, policies, templates, and internal resources available to the right teams from desktop, mobile, or web.

Secure document collaboration

A practical workspace for legal teams and their clients

Nextcloud combines controlled file sharing, document editing, communication, and access from everyday devices in one managed environment.

Protected sharing links

Share selected files or folders with passwords, expiration dates, and permissions instead of sending large email attachments.

File Drop for clients

Let a client upload documents through a link without creating an account or viewing files already stored in the destination folder.

Permission-based folders

Control access for lawyers, assistants, departments, and external collaborators at user and group level.

Versions and activity

Restore earlier file versions and review user-visible activity. Advanced adds administrative audit logging for stronger oversight.

Nextcloud Office and Talk

Edit documents together, discuss files, and use team chat or calls without moving daily collaboration to another platform.

Desktop, mobile, and WebDAV

Access and synchronize files through official clients or connect compatible legal tools using WebDAV.

The right level of control

More control than generic storage—without running the server yourself

Generic storage

Useful when basic file access is enough

Consumer or general-purpose storage may suit a very small practice with limited external collaboration and no specific data-location or support requirements.

  • Basic storage and synchronization
  • Self-service support and configuration
  • Less control over the hosting environment

Clear scope: this service is a secure document collaboration workspace. It does not replace specialized legal billing, court filing, conflict checking, or complete practice-management software.

Frequently asked questions

Nextcloud for law firms: common questions

Is Nextcloud suitable for law firms?

Yes. Nextcloud is well suited to controlled file storage, document collaboration, client uploads, calendars, tasks, chat, and secure external sharing. It is especially useful for firms that want their own managed environment rather than a shared consumer storage account.

Is this a complete legal practice-management system?

No. This is a secure collaboration and document workspace. It does not replace specialized systems for legal billing, court filing, conflict checks, or full matter lifecycle management. It can complement those tools through file exchange, synchronization, and WebDAV where supported.

Can clients upload files without creating an account?

Yes. Nextcloud File Drop can provide an upload-only link. Clients can submit documents without seeing the folder contents or receiving permanent access to the firm’s workspace.

Can we share documents with external counsel or experts?

Yes. Selected files and folders can be shared through protected or expiring links, or with named users who need ongoing collaboration access.

Does the service include audit logging?

Business Advanced includes administrative audit logging and is the recommended plan when your firm requires stronger visibility into user actions and file activity. Core includes the standard Nextcloud activity and operational logs but is not positioned as the audit-focused plan.

Is the service GDPR compliant?

No hosting service makes a law firm automatically compliant. TAB.DIGITAL provides EU data locations, a Data Processing Agreement, access controls, and managed infrastructure that can support your firm’s GDPR responsibilities. Your firm remains responsible for its legal basis, retention rules, permissions, and internal procedures.

Where can our legal data be hosted?

Available Business hosting locations include the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Latvia. Your firm can choose the location that best fits its operational and data-residency requirements.

Are Nextcloud Office and Talk included?

Yes. Business Core includes Nextcloud Office and Nextcloud Talk together with Files, Calendar, and Tasks. Advanced also includes Whiteboard and additional business integrations.

Can our firm use its own domain?

Yes. You can connect a domain or subdomain and provide lawyers, staff, and clients with a recognizable firm-branded workspace.

How much does managed Nextcloud for a law firm cost?

Business Core costs €61 per month for up to 25 users with 1 TB of storage. Business Advanced costs €146 per month for up to 50 users with 5 TB, audit logging, integrations, and premium support.
